Lots of different criteria to consider. Cost, quality, performance, personal preference, resale value, in-house manufacture, etc.
Personally, I will probably buy one sometime in the future (DateJust). But, there are quite a few quality watch companies out there. My suggestion is to buy what you like regardless of the name on it. Also, stay within your budget.
My first two swiss mechanical watches were Omegas - Seamaster Professional and Speedmaster Professional. I love them.
